Eurostream 2020

Following the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, twenty-one Eurovision community news-sites joined forces to organise an alternative 100% online edition of the Contest.

I was invited to participate as the Social Media Spokesperson for which I did for all three broadcasted shows; two semi-finals and a Grand Final, one week before ESC2020 was meant to be broadcasted. I would host three-to-five live segments in which I would read out interesting and funny social media reactions to the live-stream and recieved critical acclaim along with the following feedback from Director, Paul Lashmana:

The broadcast reached 50K+ viewers between their broadcasts and the project was broadcasted on Belgian’s #1 & #2 rated broadcasters (TV channels); VRT (Flemish-speaking) & RTBF (French-speaking).

“ Brandon was exceptional as a recurring host. He provided light-hearted banter along with an endearing, authentic personality that engaged the viewers across platforms. ”

The same countries that were supposed to participate in the Semi-Finals of Eurovision 2020 took part in the Semi-Finals of Eurostream 2020, with ten countries from each broadcast advancing to the Grand Final based on the votes of national juries consisting of music professionals (50%) and online public voting (50%). Just like at Eurovision, the qualifiers were announced in a random order, with detailed results released after the Final.

The same voting system was applied to compile the results for the Grand Final of Eurostream 2020. The twenty qualifiers from the Semi-Finals was joined by the countries of the Big 5 (France, Germany, Italy, Spain & United Kingdom) and last year's winning country, the Netherlands, who are already pre-qualified for the Grand Final.

There were no live performances from the artists during the live shows of Eurostream 2020. Instead, snippets of the official preview videos were shown for copyright restrictions.

The live-stream was broadcasted on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube simultaneously with Spanish and Russian simulcasts also provided.

The broadcast dates with video links were as followed:

available for open bookings at any event; particularly Eurovision related events.

I began dabbling in the art of drag with the performer name: “Imaani Quinn“; a pun of ‘a mannequin’ while also being an ode to two female icons:

  • Imaani - who represented UK at Eurovision 1998 (placing 2nd with ‘Where Are You?”

  • Harley Quinn - female anti-hero / antagonist in the Batman series, side-kick of main villain Joker.

Accolades

Grand Finalist at Ireland’s Alternative Eurovision Song Contest held at The George in Dublin where I live-performed ‘Shady Lady’ by Ani Lorak. I recieved praise from the Eurovision-winning singer of 1991, Linda Martin.

Guest Highlight Performer at Belfast Pride 2019.
