Northern Ireland Screen

I was contracted as a Script Consultant by Northern Ireland Screen to provide consultation to local scripts that have applied for funding by the Northern Irish TV/Film board.

I review local filmmakers scripts provided and offer a full, comprehensive analysis of its:

Narrative (plot)
Overall structure
Character development
Other technical aspects

All feedback and potential corrections are sent back to the review board and provide guidance to their decision whether local funding will be granted for the production of the short, film or online work.

Eurovision 2018

In Lisbon, Portugal I was granted more presenter roles for Australian Eurovision news-site ESC Daily (https://www.escdaily.com ) in which I developed my own talk show web-series entitled “Europe Calling” which was an iteration of the first series.

My overall roles within the Eurovision Song Contest included:

Article and live-blog production while reviewing live rehearsals.
Audio-visual content creation and promotion utilising WordPress
Technical support, practical and online, both Windows and Mac
Audio & video editing (on-camera and behind-the-scenes).
TV, Radio and podcast reporting; both live and pre-recorded
Public relations via. work e-mail, interviews and social media

Eurovision 2017

While in Kiev, I continued to work as a Press Editor and was promoted to a Freelance Content Producer for ESC Daily (https://escdaily.com ) and began guest-speaking on local radio and in podcasts specifically ESCInsight (https://escinsight.com/) while in Amsterdam, London and throughout Ukraine.

I had worked with numerous broadcasters, artists and independent production companies both in local, national selections and on-site in the designated host city - working within the Press Centre and chosen venue.

BBC Northern Ireland

After completion of the previous BBC trainee-ship, I was offered for a Freelancer role in the same department; this time as a Researcher for which I was granted by the BBC NI talent manager.

As a freelance researcher, I used my web-design skills to code GSCE Bitesize pages to new strict guidelines presented by the London contingency while gathering & editing content from independent production companies, researchers and executive producers to administer onto the BBC programme web-pages while uploading the episode(s) onto its respective iPlayer page. I also produced still-images to fit dimensions needed to be used as video thumbnails while altering media to fit short-form video to be uploaded on BBC NI’s Social media pages to aid engagement.

BBC Make It Digital

During participation in the BBC Make It Digital trainee-ship scheme I was provided lectures and and team-based training at the Belfast Metropolitan College in Millfield & Castlereagh from local, media industry experts such as:

Aidan Browne (Committee Member at Royal Television Society, Artistic Director of Youth Lyric)
Michelle Napier (UTV Presenter, Journalist)
Emma Dunseith (Executive Producer, Digital & Learning Department at BBC Northern Ireland)

After passing my training, I was offered a rare placement with the BBC to work as a Trainee Producer within the Digital & Learning department of the Blackstaff building. During my time I worked under the supervision of David Monahan (Producer, BBC Northern Ireland) helping to create & edit content for the BBC Make It website including:

Assist in recce & shooting of vox-pops with industry experts in catering & hospitality industries.
Provide technical set-up and utilise innovative camera technology with team..
Edit, render and export audio-visual content to be utilised on BBC Make It website.

As a result of the trainee-ship, I was offered a Freelance Researcher role in the same department for which I accepted. More information about this vacancy can be found here.

Eurovision 2016

61st Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, Sweden after Måns Zelmerlöw's win with "Heroes".

Eurovision 2016 has been my biggest touring opportunity as I attended five different European countries from the start of the year through to May. My main goal was to finesse my university training in media production and promotion while challenging myself to take on a more on-camera role through presenting.

My first event of the year was attending the Maltese national final in Valletta. Even though it was one of the smaller press events from the confirmed countries it provided essential insight to event management and cost efficiency. It also provided a great opportunity to network with established press members, songwriters and broadcaster delegates.

Next stop was London for the British national final; "Eurovision: You Decide". I attended the venue for my first broadcast show - which gave some useful insight to the production capabilities required to host a live, televised music contest. The show was also my first real test on-camera as the above photo showcases.

In co-operation with ESCDaily, I decided to self-produce and co-host a web-series talk show called "Europe Calling". Through the first season's six episodes in-depth discussion on the contest's current events would be provided alongside Allie Lindo and light-hearted, lip-sync performances by Betty Beyond.

During the writing stage of the talk show, I attended Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in Horsens, Denmark where I got my first taste of a big budget production for a Eurovision national final for which the Scandinavians seem to be providing as of late. Through my promotion work, I was able to strengthen my ability to independently present and interview artists on-camera for ESCDaily and later on Europe Calling.

After all national finals had concluded, next up was the official promo concerts and my return to Amsterdam for the eighth annual 'Eurovision in Concert'.

During the weekend, I quickly adapted to taking content for both the website and talk show. After interviewing numerous of the year's artists and attending the official promo event, I gained all the intel I required for how to prepare an artist for press and what to expect during the tours.

My final event before arriving to the host city for the official show was London once again, however this time for the 9th annual London Eurovision Party at Café de Paris at Coventry Square. Event ran exceptionally and fully prepared me for heading to Sweden for my return to the host city since 2014.

For the following two weeks, I was in Stockholm for the promo events and broadcast shows. The full experience provided final wisdom to budget and time management.

During the live shows, I provided my first experience of local radio and podcast commentary in relation to the contest's progress through U105 and ESCInsight respectively.

ESC Promotion content gained throughout Stockholm 2016.

Overall, through this experience I was able to re-acquaint myself with old associates and establish new ones from fellow press editors to industry professionals within the event. After much planning through the Summer, I decided to take advice given to me and to start my own management & promotion agency to aid upcoming artists and songwriters in gaining entry into the contest and therefore enhanced European promotion.

Junior Eurovision 2015

Due to completing my final year at University, I was absent on-site for majority of the events of ESC 2015 however I kept an online presence throughout with interviews, articles and live-blogs.

After graduating, I was invited to work as press during the website's first appearance at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria's capital of Sofia for which I accepted. The event included the debut appearances of Australia and Ireland within the show. Having now settled into the workload required could begin supervising aspects of the work schedule.

After completing the week-long activities, my next step was to plan a full touring schedule for Eurovision 2016 to bring my skills and experiences from Eurovision to their maximum potential.

Eurovision 2014

59th Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark after Emmelie de Forest's win with "Only Teardrops".

Entering my second year in university and as a press editor producing articles and live-blogs, I was offered a role in Copenhagen in the website's press delegation during the promotion weeks and live shows at Eurovision. Having accepted, I made it my main goal to learn all that I possibly could in the short space of time while completing my university coursework alongside.

Copenhagen was a unique experience from the daily security and pass clearances to the new roles and responsibilities given to me. This has since been my main learning in regards to working within the contest. Throughout the two weeks, I produced rehearsal blogs with recordings, took video interviews and produced summary articles.

In reflection, this event provided me with the insight and stamina to produce the best content possible within the short time conceivable. I was able to start to lead and manage rather than needed to be supervised. Through this and the following years of experience, I could consider artist management.

CultureTech Festival 2013

One of UK and Ireland's leading festivals dedicated to all things: digital tech, media and music which took place in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 2013.

While completing my university course I decided to participate in the festival to gain experience in event management and the importance of time management. The festival reached it's highest attendance yet for which I was able to monitor the latest advancements from upcoming and industry professionals advancement in creative technology including sound design and digital performance art.

Eurovision 2013

58th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden after Loreen's win with "Euphoria".

I discovered the event briefly in 2007 and officially in 2008. Once I saw the full event, I was hooked to the concept and became an avid follower of the contest. After completing my A-levels and having been accepted into University in 2012, I decided to embark towards a role that allowed myself creative output in regards to the show.

I began applying for numerous popular news-sites that specialised in ESC-related news. My press work with the Eurovision Song Contest started officially in February 2013 when I got accepted as a press editor within Australian news-site; ESCDaily.com.

As this was my first encounter to online journalism, I discovered quickly the steep learning curve needed to monitor, write and produce articles and content relating to the show on a daily basis. Through the following months I found myself adapt to the process and decided to make the jump to on-site journalism.

After all entries were chosen, an opportunity presented itself to attend 'Eurovision in Concert': one of the largest promo concerts - as a press member. I embarked on a solo flight to Amsterdam where I stayed for the weekend-long event. During the experience, I was able to interview artists, view the performers live and gain first-hand experience of what it takes to organise an event to such a degree.

During the actual event in Malmö, Sweden. I remained an online writer throughout the event however could not attend as it was too soon since my inclusion with the media site. However the previous promo concert prepared me to attend my first event in 2014.
